Boston, MA – Commonwealth Corporation, a quasi-nonprofit under the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD), is seeking partnerships to improve workforce outcomes for returning citizens. The Re-Entry Workforce Development Demonstration Program is aimed at supporting the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s efforts to provide job training and placement programs for individuals who are re-entering their communities after incarceration. “The Re-Entry Workforce Development Demonstration Program is an important initiative for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and our returning citizens,” said Labor and Workforce Development Secretary Lauren E. Jones. “We understand the challenges that returning citizens face in finding employment after incarceration and the impact it can have on their ability to successfully reintegrate into society. Studies have shown that employment is a key factor in reducing recidivism and promoting long-term success. The target population for this program includes individuals who will be released within 60 days of the program’s start date, those who were released no earlier than 12 months prior to enrolling in a program, or a combination of both. Grant applications will be accepted from partnerships that have demonstrated experience, success, and current capacity in providing occupationally focused training and placement programs for returning citizens. Commonwealth Corporation is seeking proposals that demonstrate the services would result in job placements, as well as 30 days of placement retention for participants by the end of the grant period. The Re-Entry Workforce Development Demonstration Program is a unique opportunity for organizations to make a positive impact on the lives of returning citizens and help them reintegrate into their communities. “Through this program, we have the opportunity to not only improve the lives of returning citizens, but to also support our communities and economy as a whole,” said Zachary Rich, Director of Justice Based Initiatives at Commonwealth Corporation. “We look forward to working with our partners to create meaningful change.” The Request for Proposal is now open, and interested organizations are encouraged to apply.
