El WTFP Express Program provides employers with fast, simple access to grant-funded training, helping businesses in Massachusetts respond to emerging needs.

Strengthening Workforce Opportunities Statewide

Today, we’re spotlighting WTFP Express Program Coordinator Elizabeth Cloherty, whose thoughtful support and exceptional customer service help our grantees succeed. Through her work, Elizabeth sees firsthand how the Workforce Training Fund Program strengthens businesses and builds opportunity across the Commonwealth. Elizabeth is a proud Syracuse University graduate, where she studied linguistics and German studies, and outside of work, she enjoys playing hockey, sailing, and making the most of the great outdoors in New England.

Q: Can you describe your role and what it looks like supporting the WTFP’s Express grants?
A: I support our grantees through each step of the grant process, from application review through reimbursement submission. Supporting a large, diverse group of businesses means different issues can arise each day. I answer a lot of questions about our application and reimbursement processes, troubleshoot applications, and review reimbursement documents.
Q: What kind of impact have you seen the Express Program make on businesses and workers across the state?

A: I have heard from grantees that are only able to train their employees because of the Express Program. From ESOL to manufacturing to sales, businesses have been able to expand their operations and upskill their employees thanks to Express grants.

Q: What is rewarding about working with employers through this program?

A: The most rewarding part of the Express Program is the appreciative messages we receive from small businesses about the impact of our grants. Each ‘thank you’ from a grantee is a reminder of the positive impact of our work.

While our grants are small and short-term, the impact they have on our grantees are not.

Q: From your perspective, why is workforce training so important in today’s economy?

A: The world around us is changing very quickly, from the technology we use to the laws and regulations that govern our businesses. Workforce training helps businesses and their employees to stay competitive and adapt quickly.

Q: What is your New Year’s Resolution?

A: Read more books and less social media!
