Commonwealth Corporation recibió dos subvenciones $100,000 de La Fundación Boston y Fundación Cummings to support the design, development, and testing of YouthWorks Plus – an effort to transform Massachusetts’ summer jobs program for low-income youth into a multi-year sequence of work experiences that will increase long-term employment outcomes for participating youth.
YouthWorks Plus builds on the public-funded summer jobs program, YouthWorks, which Commonwealth Corporation has administered for fifteen years. YouthWorks Plus comprises of a sequence of work experience – a more robust approach to ‘step up’ employability training, work experience, and other supports that young people need to become part of the competitive economy.
Youth participants would have access to both summer and year-round subsidized employment funded through YouthWorks, The Boston Foundation and Cummings Foundation’s grants, and other Commonwealth Corporation resources. The YouthWorks Plus program will include job search activities, life-skill coaching and professional development as part of a case management process, strategic employer engagement, individual education and career plans, and opportunities to give participants credible resume builders such as work certificates and baseline employability credentials.
