Applied AI skills training for the Massachusetts workforce

Funded by the Workforce Investment Trust Fund

Overview

Focused AI Skills Training (FAST AI) is a new initiative of Commonwealth Corporation, a quasi-public arm of the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, in partnership with the Executive Office of Economic Development, that gives Massachusetts employers rapid access to high-quality, applied AI training for their current and newly hired workers.

AI is changing how work gets done across every industry, but most employers, and small and medium-sized employers in particular, do not have the time, capital, or in-house expertise to train their existing workforce on the AI tools reshaping their operations. General AI literacy content is widely available. What is missing is instructor-led training that is contextualized to a worker's own tools, role, and day-to-day tasks. FAST AI is built to close that gap.

Through FAST AI, Commonwealth Corporation procures training slots directly from approved training providers and publishes their approved courses in a public FAST AI Training Directory. Pre-registered eligible Massachusetts employers browse the directory and enroll their employees with providers directly, with minimal paperwork and no out-of-pocket cost. Courses are refreshed on an ongoing basis to keep pace with evolving AI tools and use cases, and enrollment, attendance, and completion are tracked and reported to CommCorp by training providers.

We are seeking qualified training providers to deliver applied, instructor-led AI training through the FAST AI Training Directory. A Request for Qualifications is now open, with applications due in November 2026. The program opens for employer enrollment in January 2027, with training expected by February 2027.
