The Transformative Culture Project (TCP), formerly known as Press Pass TV, uses media arts and culture as tools to transform lives and communities. Their Western MA branch is based in Holyoke and works to train and employ youth in the media arts with a social impact focus. In the summer of 2017 they hired YouthWorks participants who were trained to make videos for local nonprofit clients. Youth were trained in and responsible for developing stories; researching local issues; operating cameras, microphones, and lighting equipment; editing videos; & participating in all workshops. Youth were also connected to holistic, trauma-informed resources, including life-skills workshops and one-on-one college mentoring. The YouthWorks Participants worked on “Beyond Incarceration” where they interviewed young men involved in the Safe and Successful Youth Initiative (SSYI).
